What is low light therapy?
Low-level light therapy, or photobiomodulation, is based on light-emitting diode (LED) technology and is the application of light energy to the body to achieve therapeutic benefits. It stimulates a natural photobiochemical reaction similar to the process of photosynthesis in plants. The energy delivered by LEDs has been shown to improve cell metabolism, accelerate the repair and replenishment of damaged skin cells, and stimulate the production of collagen - the foundation of healthy, smooth skin. Research shows that LED light therapy can help smooth skin texture, improve skin firmness and resilience, increase lymphatic system activity, restore skin's natural cellular activity and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and superficial hyperpigmentation. The treatment is designed for all skin types and is non-ablative, non-invasive, painless and requires absolutely no downtime. Patients or clients can return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure
For what purpose is light therapy used?
Based on extensive research, low light therapy devices have been approved by the FDA and have been shown to be effective:
- Mild to moderate acne vulgaris
- Superficial, benign vascular and pigmented lesions
- Eye wrinkles and fine lines
- Suboptimal local blood flow and circulation
- Muscle and joint pain
- Pain and stiffness associated with arthritis
- Muscle spasms
- Chronic neck and shoulder pain of musculoskeletal origin
Are there any harmful side effects of low frequency light therapy?
LED devices are considered extremely low risk when used as intended.
Does light therapy cause pain?
No. Light therapy is non-invasive and painless when used as intended.
How safe is light therapy?
The low-light therapy is based on light-emitting diode (LED) technology developed for NASA experiments related to manned spaceflight. Compared to lasers, the patented LED technology generates a negligible amount of heat and is not considered a device with significant risk.
Does light therapy use ultraviolet light?
No. Celluma only uses a combination of blue, red and near infrared (invisible to the naked eye) light emitting diodes (LEDs).
How long does a Celluma session last?
Thirty (30) minutes.
Are any special preparations needed before using Celluma?
Celluma should be in close proximity to the treated area. The skin must be free of clothing, make-up or other items that may deflect light away from the skin.
Do I have to lie down to use Celluma?
No. You can use the Celluma in a sitting or lying position. For example, there are two ways to use the Celluma when it is aimed at the lower back area: sitting comfortably in a chair with the Celluma curved horizontally around the lower back area, or lying down with the device resting on the lower back area. Celluma can also be placed vertically on the spine, following the natural curves of the body. The main advantage of the design is the unique ability to be shaped to conform to the profile of the body. Do not lie directly on top, lean into the device, or load it with your entire body.
What is the best position to use Celluma?
The best position is the one that is most comfortable for the user. The user should be seated or lying down, with adequate support. Never strain or twist to use the device. Instead, shape the device to the desired body part. For arms or legs, the Celluma can be wrapped around the body part. After positioning it, sit comfortably, relax, watch TV, use your laptop or take a nap.
How close should the Celluma be placed to the treatment area?
Place the Celluma as close to your skin as possible, the closer the better. One of Celluma's main advantages is its patented flexible design, which allows close positioning to the skin and can lead to more effective results.
Can I use makeup after a Celluma session?
Yeah. You can return to all normal activities immediately after use.
Can I travel with Celluma?
Yeah. Celluma is lightweight and portable, making it ideal for travel. When traveling outside of your country of residence be sure to check for proper power source and electrical input. An international Celluma adapter kit is included with all units.
Who can use Celluma?
Celluma should not be used on children under 12 years of age, or on the chest or stomach of nursing or pregnant women. Please refer to the package insert for a complete list of contraindications.
